She’s a hustler and we love her!
Kate was one of the first teachers we certified in San Diego and she made the class popular in North County faster than you can say “addicted to FlowLIFT.” Her classes were packed from the very beginning and we couldn’t stop hearing about how amazing she is. After teacher for 18 months she got her master trainer certification and certified eight teachers in San Marcos. We can’t wait to see what else this badass lady has in store. Read on to hear more about our teacher of the month Kate and her FlowLIFT journey.
Favorite Thing About Teaching FlowLIFT
It’s hard to pick one favorite thing – there are so many! I love that I get to teach and get a killer workout at the same time. I love the feeling of the whole class in it together, conquering the workout, pushing ourselves and feeding off each other’s energy.
How Students Respond to Your Classes
First time students are always excited by how fun and innovative the workout is and are excited to come back to feel the magic again. Veteran students often give me “soreness reports” the day after class, and love the results they’ve seen both physically and mentally. People are surprised at how much they can get out of their heads and just focus on moving their bodies. All students love the kick ass playlist that fuels the class.
Prepping and Planning Classes
I teach 3 classes a week, so I typically plan one class and teach the same class for the week. It gives students an opportunity to perfect the moves and feel like they can really get into the rhythm of class. My intention is to have my classes feel very balanced, so we work almost every muscle group from top to bottom. I always try to have one move warm up for the next move, so it feels good in your body, and I practice it myself first so I know it feels right. Having the online instructor support membership is key…it makes planning the classes so much easier.
Physical and Mental Benefits of Teaching FlowLIFT
I am in my mid-forties and I’m in the absolute best shape of my life from FlowLIFT. I was a college athlete, ran marathons, and have taught many different forms of fitness. NOTHING compares to FlowLIFT. Not only am I strong and toned, but this workout prevents me from getting injured. Building all the core and glute muscles helps protect my joints, and I feel stronger in every other activity I do.
Running a FlowLIFT Training
Running my own yoga sculpt teacher training was a powerful experience. Being able to share my love for FlowLIFT and teaching others how it’s done is a dream come true. It’s so rewarding to see it “click” for an instructor when they start teaching the FlowLIFT format. The smooth flow of the class is so fun to teach and is turn-key for instructors. I can’t wait to do more trainings and spread the FlowLIFT love to more studios.
Favorite Song to Sweat To
At the moment, I’m kind of obsessed with an oldie but goodie – Nuthin’ But A G’Thang by Snoop Dogg. So good!
Biggest Inspiration
My aunt, Jill, is my biggest inspiration. She was like a second mom to me growing up. She was an aerobic instructor in the 80s and was my P.E. teacher in elementary school. Her passion for health and fitness made a huge impact on me and is the reason I pursued teaching 15 years ago. Jill was a force of nature, and sadly passed away 2 years ago. I like to think of myself channeling my inner Jill when I teach.
Staying in Shape While Traveling
When I travel, I bring ankle and hand weights and kick my own ass doing my own FlowLIFT class. It’s so rad that I’m equipped to take myself through such a challenging and fun workout that I crave and look forward to (even on vacation.)
Tips on How to Do FlowLIFT Moves Correctly
A few key components to stay safe in FlowLIFT is to keep your core engaged the whole class. I also like to tell students to move the ankle weight, don’t let the ankle weight move you, so they avoid jerking movements in their joints. It’s important to stay focused and be precise with each movement no matter what it is.
Five-Year Plan
My five year FlowLIFT plan is to lead multiple teacher trainings around the country. I also plan to start my own website and offer FlowLIFT video packs for sale. Stay tuned!
FlowLIFT with Kids
I teach so much, that I never do FL at home. However, my 15-year-old daughter loves to come to my FlowLIFT classes at my home studio whenever she can. I think it’s important for kids to see you taking care of yourself and though your kids might not always listen to you they’ll always copy what you do even if they don’t know it.
Kate!! Goosebumps reading about your aunt Jill and how your kids will follow you, whatever you do. Im so lucky to have met you and learn FlowLIFT practicing by your side! You are an inspiration and your personality is infectious. Thank you for being you!
Kate, you are a STUD in every sense of the word. You never cease to amaze me even after 40+ years of shining your light and kicking ARS!! Xoxoxoxxo
