Get The Best of Both Worlds
FlowLIFT was born in our yoga studio Buddhi Yoga in La Jolla, but this pilates yoga fusion workout is definitely not yoga. The format of the class was taken from the way a sun salute flows: Standing into a forward fold, moving through a vinyasa into down dog and back to the top of the mat for a standing mountain pose. A vinyasa is just the term for doing these three poses in order: plank, chaturanga, updog and downdog. There are five total vinyasas in every 45-minute session and it’s these vinyasas that connect the different sections of the class. That’s about the extent of the yoga connection. You can’t breathe deeply through your nose in FlowLIFT and we usually turn beet red and/or purple during the class, which proves it’s jam-packed with cardio.
Every Move is a Core Move
Every move in the FlowLIFT workout is a core move, and that’s where pilates comes in. Our pilates yoga fusion class has a sneaky way of getting you to use your deep core muscles in every move, whether you’re doing a lunging combo or a floor move on all fours. We’ve taken the core-centeredness of pilates and combined it with the flow of yoga.
You may have taken a sculpt yoga class before, but trust us, this is not the same. FlowLIFT uses light ankle weights and dynamic moves that capture your mind and heart like no other. There’s something about the non-stop fluidity of the class since you don’t need to pause and set up equipment, switch weights, or change stations. This continuous flow helps us release stress and workout the mind too. The fact that you can’t drift off AND do the moves at the same time makes you set aside whatever is going on your life at the moment to focus on presence of mind, resilience and getting stronger.
This pilates yoga fusion was a marriage made in heaven. Haven’t tried it yet? Log on to get your first month free.
