FlowLIFT was inspired by the yoga sculpt with weights craze that has taken the exercise world by storm. There are many different incarnations of this new workout style. FlowLIFT is unique because of our use of ankle weights and our highly effective full body moves. This 45 minute workout is a full body class every single time. We don’t focus on one muscle group one day and another on the next day. We view the body as a machine that must always be working synergistically to achieve optimum health, longevity and fitness. Our founders have been yoga teachers for 20 years and believe strongly in the concept of balance. There are three main reasons we feel that a full body workout is a superior fitness regimen than targeting certain muscle groups on different days.
Full Body Yoga Sculpt with Weights is Cardiovascular Exercise
Full body moves are called compound exercises and refer to when you are using more than one muscle group at a time. Isolated exercises target just one muscle group at a time. Utilizing multiple muscle groups at once increases the heart rate more than isolated exercises. The body needs to oxygenate more muscles at once which requires the heart to pump more blood around the body. The heart rate must rise to accommodate this increase in blood flow. The addition of the extra stress of hand and ankle weights requires the heart rate to rise even more. Cardiovascular exercise is key to optimum health.
Full Body Moves Burn More Fat
Compound exercises burn more calories. Our full body moves are ideal for fat loss thanks to a sustained elevated heart rate throughout the FlowLIFT class. There are no breaks, unless of course you need one then please take one! But the teacher will be constantly moving and setting a pace to match the rhythm of the music. We want students to focus first on “getting” the move, or executing it correctly from start to finish. The next step is to keep up with the pace of the instructor. Even if you can’t quite get there, the effort that you are putting in will pay off. If you are putting in the work with our full body exercises, your heart rate will naturally elevate and you’ll be burning more calories than you do in most any other workout.
Compound Exercises Create Greater Functional Strength
We are always blabbering on about functional strength but what is it? Functional strength training focuses on exercising several muscles and joints together rather than working a particular muscle or group of muscles independently. This enhances the performance of movements so that an individual’s activities of daily living are easier to perform. FlowLIFT moves all of the joints, including the spine, in every direction. This maintains and improves the full range of motion throughout the entire body. Many workouts actually minimize range of motion, especially strength training and cardio like running and lifting. The body is a machine that works best when everything is operating in a delicate balance. FlowLIFT delivers this synergistic effect in one 45 minute class.
