How Yoga Sculpt Boosts Your Metabolism

Before we created FlowLIFT we went to several types of classes to meet all our fitness needs. We did yoga to stay flexible and sane, we went to a personal trainer to shape our booties with heavy weights, we did pilates to get those lean, long muscles, and we ran to get our cardio. It was time consuming, to say the least. We wanted one workout that had it all, but it didn’t exist, so we created it. Steady Pace Cardio Flows
Cardio exercise, which is sometimes called aerobic exercise, is any rhythmic activity that raises your heart rate into your target heart rate zone. This is the zone where you burn the most fat and calories. You don’t need to run or do the elliptical machine for forty-five minutes to get your cardio. The nonstop flows in this class move at a steady space, leaving you drenched in sweat and out of breath. You’ll likely finish class with a beet red or purple face, which means you worked extra hard. Each FlowLIFT move is done for 10-15 reps at a quick, steady pace. Your heart will be pounding out of your chest and you’ll feel like a rockstar by the time you roll out of savasana (final resting pose).
High Intensity Yoga Sculpt Workout
FlowLIFT is a high intensity, low impact workout that can help you burn more fat by increasing your metabolic rate, even after the workout has finished. But what exactly constitutes a high intensity workout? How do you know if you’re working at a high or vigorous intensity level? If you’re working at a high intensity level it should be difficult to talk because your breathing is short and labored. If you’re breathless you’re probably working hard enough. Perceived exertion is another way to tell if your workout is intense or not. If you perceive that your exertion is high, then it is very possible that your heart rate is also high. High intensity workouts involve large muscle groups like your legs and FlowLIFT does just that and much more.
Compound Moves Rule
A compound exercise is any move where you’re using multiple muscle groups at the same time. This was a key component for us when we created the FlowLIFT yoga sculpt class. Isolated movements can be boring and less effective. The combination moves we do in lunges, squats, planks and all fours combine cardio exercises with strength building ones. These metabolic blasters will sky rocket your heart rate and attack every muscle in your body. It’s these type of yoga sculpt moves that you can’t find anywhere else. The moves, the pace and the order in which the moves are put together create the perfect recipe for a faster metabolism that burns more fat.
High Reps, Low Weight
If you want to build more muscle mass, lift heavier weights and do less reps. However, if you want the lean, long dancer body, focus on more reps with lighter weights. We opted for the latter. In FlowLIFT classes we use 3 lb. hand weights with 1.5 or 2.5 lb. ankle weights. This, combined with the high reps of each move, burns fat and increases muscle endurance. Since we spend so much time in down dog, in plank and on hands and knees there’s not need to use anything higher than three pound dumbbells. The same holds true for the legs. You’ll get plenty of kicking moves, pulsing and poses that challenge the legs and core.
The Bottom Line
Muscles use more calories than fat, so the more muscle you have on your body, the faster your metabolism works. If you stick with doing FlowLIFT at least three times a week you’ll notice fat loss and increased muscle tone. Other benefits of the FlowLIFT class are increased coordination and an improved mind/body connection. FlowLIFT moves are complex, and they require you to think and stay present in order execute them, which means you can’t space out and think about something else. This is a great stress reliever. There have been many times when we get to class in a bad mood, stressed out or suffering from low energy. All of these are magically transformed after a FlowLIFT class.
