Did you know that yoga can be both soothing and invigorating? Some classes are made to relax the nervous system (yin or restorative), while others like ashtanga and vinyasa challenge the physical body and increases cardiovascular fitness. And then there’s our yoga with weights workout, FlowLIFT.
We created a yoga workout that sculpts the body by doing yoga with weights around the ankles and using light dumbbells. In reality, there’s not a of yoga in the FlowLIFT class and it definitely belongs more in the fitness family. The yoga behind the practice comes from the creators Amanda McCarroll and Carolina Vivas, both longtime yoga teachers who wanted a workout that flowed like their signature vinyasa Buddhi Flow class.
There are five total vinyasas in the 45-minute FlowLIFT workout and it’s jam-packed with creative combination moves in lunges, squats, planks and on all fours. You won’t be able to wander off mentally because you’ll be too busy connecting your body with your brain to do these moves. Doing 10-15 reps of each combo right into the next non-stop gets you sweating and working muscles you didn’t even know you had.
One of the most important parts of this class is the sequencing. The FlowLIFT founders have over 20 years of sequencing experience. The order in which the moves are put together helps to exhaust a certain muscle group so that it’s forced to get stronger and leaner. Since we never use more than two to three pounds in each limb, the muscles don’t get bulky – they get lean and strong. It’s that long, lean body that keeps us feeling light, agile, flexible, and strong.
A Challenge Like No Other
Be prepared to be challenged like never before in this class. We suggest you start with the beginner series and work off the suggested schedule before moving onto the regular weekly classes. Try your best and don’t give up! The benefits of the FlowLIFT yoga with weights workout are huge and you’ll star to see them in just a few short weeks. We recommend doing this class 3-4 times a week for the fastest results.
