During the 2020 lockdown, moms faced a new set of issues that required quick problem solving. We had to figure out how to maintain everything while our kids were stuck at home going to “school” online. Suddenly we were expected to juggle even more that we already were. Doing an online yoga workout was not making it to the to do list!
Working out quickly fell to priority level: LOW. For some of us it seemed completely justified to have what Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development refers to as “morning wine.” We became deeply entrenched in the Covid lifestyle more and more by the day and some of us haven’t re-emerged.
We get it. The creators of FlowLIFT, Carolina and Amanda, also own a yoga and fitness studio in downtown La Jolla, CA. When they were first closed down they taught live classes and recorded FlowLIFT workouts in the privacy of their space with no students in sight.
However as soon as Mr. Newsom deemed it the right time, they had to open their doors and welcome the willing back to class. They both had enjoyed the solitude of an empty studio but knew that no business can be sustained by online classes only.
Withdrawing has it’s benefits and one of them is the clarity and reinvention that comes with re-emergence. Perhaps you don’t hang out with all the same people and don’t pack your schedule with as much perpetual busy-ness. This also includes how and when we exercise.

Functional Fitness is Forever
What the heck is functional fitness? Functional fitness exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. The FlowLIFT class only utilizes movements that contribute to functional fitness.
For example, a squat is a functional exercise because it trains the muscles used when you rise up and down from a chair or pick up low objects. Lunges are also a functional movement. Side lunges strengthen the muscles your body uses to move and change direction.
The floor exercises are an incredibly beneficial style of motion for the body. Every part of the FlowLIFT floor moves are executed from the deep core muscles. You are using multiple limbs at once and taking the joints through every range of motion.
FlowLIFT floor moves can be intimidating and frustrating. Persistence is key as well as taking your time and doing less reps. It’s better to do a movement slowly and deliberately rather than fast and sloppy. We don’t repeat movements however once you master one, the others come naturally.
