So you just finished the FlowLIFT challenge. Congratulations! You probably feel stronger, leaner, and are flowing through moves that you never thought you could do. FlowLIFT is not just another yoga sculpt class. It truly has the power to change your relationship to exercise. A new student at our studio the other day said, “wow that was such a hard workout but the class flew by because it was so fun. I will be back!” This is music to our ears and exactly what we want people to experience. Exercise should be fun, and it should also be effective. FlowLIFT checks all the boxes except for just one: we still need to stretch. Add deep breathing to that stretching and you’re really on to something.
Yoga Sculpt Class is Great, But You Need Yoga Too
Amanda and Carolina have been yoga teachers for nearly 20 years. So they understand the benefits of breath and movement. Their other website, yourBuddhi, is filled with over 300 yoga videos and features livestream classes broadcast from their La Jolla yoga studio, Buddhi Yoga. So you don’t need to live in San Diego to try yoga with the FlowLIFT founders, you can just upgrade your membership for $6 more per month and get the best of both worlds. Carolina and Amanda swear by a steady diet of yoga and FlowLIFT as the perfect combo to keep the body and mind strong, fit and healthy. While the list of benefits to this magical duo are long, here are our three favorites.
3 Reasons to Add Yoga to Your Life (Along With Our Yoga Sculpt Class)
Yoga Reduces Tension
FlowLIFT is a full body workout that engages large and small muscle groups all over. You will feel sore in places you have never felt before! This is a good thing. You’re creating functional and lean muscle throughout the body. While stretching has never shown to reduce the soreness associated with exercising, it has shown to release the muscle tension that comes along with a tough workout. Some typical areas that need to be stretched after a week full of LIFT are the glutes, hamstrings, and hip flexors. It also feels great to stretch the shoulders, neck, chest and upper back. A well-rounded yoga class will stretch all of these areas in a safe way. Yoga is active stretching connected with breath. So as long as you’re able to breathe deeply, you won’t overdo it.
Learn How to Breathe In Yoga
Yoga reduces muscle tension but it reduces mental tension as well. In the beginning of a yoga class, the teacher will first instruct you to focus on the breath. There will be cues to deepen the inhale and the exhale as well as to breathe completely through the nose. As you begin to flow through different stretches and postures, each transition will be guided by the breath. This connection between breath and movement is profoundly calming to the nervous system. Even if a class is physically challenging, the heart rate never elevates because the breath remains so calm. Learn how to breathe deeply and consciously in a yoga class so that you can use the breath to calm yourself whenever and wherever you are.
Yoga Prevents Injuries
We created FlowLIFT to be a low impact and high intensity workout so people improve their fitness level while minimizing the risk of injury. Yoga takes this one step further. The movement is slower than in a yoga sculpt class and like we said above, connected to deep breath through the nose. Your awareness of the body is heightened and you’ll discover important things that you may miss in an exercise setting. Yoga will show you which side and areas of the body are tighter, stronger, weaker, more flexible, etc. It is extremely helpful to know about the natural imbalances in the body. We all have tendencies to rely more on our stronger arm, shoulder, leg, etc. Gaining this insight through yoga will carry over into other things we do, even FlowLIFT. We are all working towards creating a balanced body and mind, and yoga will take you closer to that state.
We know that everyone is short on time. The FlowLIFT Challenge was meant to have a big impact with a manageable schedule of just three classes a week. Throwing in one or two yoga classes during the week as well is a game changer. YourBuddhi and FlowLIFT are truly the ultimate combo to be calm, fit and feeling good on every level.
