If exercise were a pharmaceutical, it would be the most sought after medication in the world. Exercising several times per week has proven to prevent the chronic illnesses that Americans are most at risk for. These include heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. A consistent physical fitness regimen can also prevent and relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression, our society’s most common mental health issues. Don’t Smoke, Duh
This may seem obvious, but about 34 million Americans still smoke and 16 million Americans live with smoking related illnesses. A recent study shows that smoking is potentially more harmful to women than it is for men. They are more likely to get lung cancer from smoking and that a female smoker should be more worried about lung cancer than breast cancer. This one is a no brainer. If you smoke, you’re begging to be sick. We know quitting is easier said than done. If you’re a smoker and you can’t quit on your own, talk to your doctor or research other ways to kick this terrible habit.

Coree says “If we can see our food choices as cellular activity (we have 30 trillion cells to care for), it gets easier to weed out the bullsh*t. Is this serving my body? That’s the only ‘rule’ there really needs to be. Is my plate to help or hinder.” She also recommends small changes sustained over time to make the biggest difference. Often it’s more important to cut things out such as refined sugar rather than being overly concerned with eating spinach all day.
Put That Wine Bottle Down and Do Our Yoga Sculpt Class Instead
At least put it down after the one glass you just poured. The mommy loves wine culture has become pervasive in America. While a glass of wine once in a while is a nice way to relax with friends or your partner at the end of the day, drowning yourself in a bottle of Chardonnay every night is potentially catastrophic for your health. This especially goes for women. Our blood alcohol levels are much higher than a man’s even if we drink the same amount. This is because we are usually smaller and have less water in our blood stream. Most of us are juggling work, marriage, friends, kids and running a household. We are exhausted by the end of the day and 1, 2 or even 3 glasses a wine really takes the edge off. It’s not as easy as bringing a glass to your mouth but exercise, yoga and meditation are all better answers. Too much drinking damages the organs and increases the chance of a variety of cancers. It also makes you fat with bad skin. We don’t think that’s the look you’re going for on the inside or the outside.
