How We Created A Yoga Strength Workout That Will Knock Your Socks Off
I’ve been a yoga teacher for over fifteen years, and together with my business partner Amanda, we opened a studio in La Jolla, California in 2014. In San Diego, we’re both known for teaching seamless and creative vinyasa classes that people love. As we approached our 40s, we continued to do yoga workout for strength and other forms of exercise to stay fit and healthy. Amanda went to pilates while I tried Orange Theory, personal trainers, and spin studios. For me it was always the same. I got bored fast and I tried the next big thing only to find that I got bored of that, too. We noticed all our students coming to yoga but also going to these other studios and gyms in search of that cardio and strength training they couldn’t really get through yoga. Trust me, my yoga class is a tough, steady flow-type of class where you use your own body for resistance and work on arm balances and inversions that challenge you upper body and core. It still doesn’t compare to doing the treadmill or lifting weights. We had a thought, wouldn’t it be awesome to create the perfect workout? A workout where you get it all and never get bored?
Hello FlowLIFT Workout!
The first time we tried coming up with a fitness class, we had eight pound ankle weights on and used five pound hand weights. We did a few donkey kicks and leg lifts, and threw in the towel shortly thereafter. It was a disaster for the first three months; Turns out that coming up with the perfect workout isn’t that easy. We began to put to work our many years of sequencing experience and took elements from various forms of movement to gel together a yoga strength workout that flowed just like a vinyasa class. No more wasting time setting up machines, getting more equipment, or moving from station to station. We created a workout that in just forty five minutes targets every muscle in your body and leaves you drenched in sweat. You’ll get cardio, which means you’ll turn yourself into a fat-burning machine, you’ll build lean and long muscles, and firm up your core and booty.
A FlowLIFT Class is Everything You’ve Been Looking For…
Class always begins standing at the top of the mat with a few stretches for the shoulders and torso. You’ll then move into a forward fold and onto your belly for some back warmups. This is your last chance to breathe deeply before you start moving through a series of combination moves in planks, lunges and squats to elevate your heart rate and target the big muscle groups. After the warm up you continue to work hard doing ten to fifteen reps of floor moves that will exhaust your core as well as those deep and tiny muscle groups that shape your hips. (Who don’ts want a tight core and slender hips?) FlowLIFT is a challenging yoga with weights class that will test both your physical and mental strength, but this is what makes it so great. Doing this class three to four times a week will get you in the best of shape your life and you’ll start to see big changes in your body after just a few weeks. What makes FlowLIFT different from other sculpt classes is how the moves are sequenced together, the seamless flow, the ankle weights, the creative exercises and how each class is always new and different. You’ll never get bored and you’ll always be excited for the next class.
